Avi Rutschman

Associate

Avi Rutschman is a litigation associate at Athene Law.  His practice focuses on representing clients in complex litigation matters in both state and federal courts, as well as private arbitration and mediation.  Avi is an experienced litigator who has represented both public and private clients in a wide array of matters, including multi-million-dollar contract disputes, class actions, and seminal cases involving nuanced constitutional and statutory issues.

Avi has a deep expertise on issues affecting public agencies, including health care districts and public hospitals.  He regularly advises on issues involving the Brown Act, Government Claims Act, and the Public Records Act.

Avi takes a common sense approach to litigation from inception to final disposition.  As a former federal law clerk, he is particularly well versed in the Federal Rules of Civil Procedure and Federal Rules of Evidence.  Avi has also litigated numerous traditional and administrative writs of mandate in state court.

Prior to joining Athene Law, Avi served as a litigator in the Municipal Law department of an Am Law 200 firm in Los Angeles, California.  Avi also previously worked in the White Collar and Health Care departments of an Am Law 100 firm.  His practice focused on representing providers in federal criminal investigations and managed care plans in civil litigation.  In 2017, he was part of the trial team representing a Fortune 500 health care company in a three-week class action trial in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California.

 

From 2015 to 2016, Avi served as a law clerk for the Honorable Dale Drozd in the U.S. District Court of the Eastern District of California.

Credentials

Avi received his Bachelor of Arts in History at University of California, Los Angeles and is a graduate of Loyola Law School, magna cum laude.  While at Loyola Law School, Avi served as an editor on the Loyola Law Review.
